WHY MUSIC LESSONS?

I am excited that you are interested in taking music lessons! Taking piano and violin lessons has radically changed my life and has been a source of great joy and satisfaction.  Here is my personal philosophy of why children benefit from piano lessons:

  1. Enjoyment. Studying and learning to reproduce music is a great pleasure that countless persons can testify to. This is the most important reason!!
  2. The Flexibility of the Piano: The piano is used in so many different genres: religious, jazz, rock, classical, and latin are just a few examples. The fundamentals for each genre are the same. I teach primarily classical music; this means that students will learn to read music, play scales, and play solo pieces at recitals. That being said I understand the interest in other styles and am able to instruct students in the basic levels of jazz and popular music (i.e. improvised music) as well.
  3. Prepare Your Student for Success in School and Community Orchestra Programs. As a professional educator, I know there is no substitute for private music instruction. If you want your student to attain their maximum potential this is a necessary step. 
  4. Character Development:  Playing the piano well requires commitment, diligence, focus, energy, attention to detail, and perseverance. These qualities are cultivated with the proper guidance of the parent and teacher. The end result can be extremely satisfying.  In short, this could be described as learning delayed gratification.

 

1ST LESSON INTERVIEW

I like to schedule a free initial lesson for interested parents and students before enrolling a student for lessons.  This allows you the opportunity to become better acquainted with me as a teacher and allows me to get to know your family as a potential student. As a teacher I am looking for parents who are willing to help their children persevere in the learning process. I look for students who are respectful, demonstrate self-control, and can focus.
